Optimized Control
for Cattle Feeders

Time honored feedlot fly control

Since 1974 BioSwat has worked closely with cattle feeders throughout Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas to design and implement successful integrated fly control programs. Today, our reach is nationwide serving large and small cattle feedes alike. BioSwat's strength lies in its efficacious fly parasite blend, consistently high product yield and depth of experience.

We review manure management and habitat mitigation, feed yard housekeeping and pen conditions, stored feed practices and chemical application procedures. Our goal is to optimize the use of biological fly control and limit chemical sprays and baits to reduce overall fly control costs to ensure season-long fly control.

Dairy

Organic and Conventional
Dairy Programs

Optimized programs for the conventional & organic dairy

No where is fly control be more critical than in the close confines of a dairy where productivity is closely monitored. With numerous and unique fly breeding habitats; such as calf hutches, manure storage sites, gravity fed manure and composting systems, BioSwat's IPM programs are designed to address these primary fly breeding sites with the goal of optimizing fly control throughout the dairy.

Over 40 plus years of experience has helped today's modern conventional dairies, as well as legions of family run organic dairies in Organic Valley's COOP system, establish effective season-long fly control programs.

Poultry

Season-long Solutions
for Poultry

Year-around fly control for hen houses

The poultry house provides the perfect battle ground for fly parasites. With uniform temperatures and consistent environmental conditions, fly parasites thrive in the poultry pack. Dripping waterers keep poultry waste from drying and lead to explosive fly breeding habits. This is exactly where your fly parasites are best utilized.

Our programs are designed to build fly parasite populations soon after new flocks are introduced and before the poultry pack grows too large. There are specific management practices that can protect your fly parasites when barn or pit clean out occurs, and our guidance and recommendations help protect your ongoing biological fly control program.

About

BioSwat - the Natural
Choice for Fly Control

A solution-based tradition that serves the animal health industry

BioSwat pioneered the application of fly parasites in 1974. We've worked hand-in-hand with major cattle feeders, dairymen and poultry producers across the country ever since. BioSwat's fly parasites are a time honored solution for Stable, House and Horn fly control.

An integrated fly control program built around biological control reduces the need for constant chemical applications. Coupled with sound manure management and general housekeeping, fly parasites will yield year-after-year improvement in your fly control and offer improved ROI.

How fly parasites work to control pest flies

Fly parasites, of the Pteromalidae family are indigenous to North America. They are a species-specific parasitoid, laying their eggs exclusing in fly pupa. BioSwat's efficacious blend includes Spalangia cameroni, Muscidifurax zaraptor, and Muscidifurax raptorellus.

These gnat-sized insects live their entire life cycle on or near the surface of manure and other decaying organic matter attacking flies in their pupal stage long before they become adult pest flies that negatively impact livestock performance.

When released on or near fly breeding sites, the female searches through the habitat seeking out fly pupa. Once located, she drums a hole in the pupal case and deposits eggs insides the fly pupa leading to destruction of the immobilized fly.
